Gene Thomas is the fourth son of
Chief Jacob E. Thomas, Sr., and is one of the best carvers of False Face
masks active today. He was born on the Six Nations Reserve in southern Ontario on June 14, 1958. Gene is Onondaga (Wolf Clan). Gene began carving wooden false face masks when he was 14 years old under the tutelage of his father. He started soapstone carving in 1980 and has been carving steadily ever since. He is recognized as a prmier carver in both wood and stone. His carvings are in collections around the world. |
